Translating Values Into Business

Need: Develop a training day for a group of small business owners seeking to significantly grow their businesses in ways that are humane, values-driven and financially viable. 

Custom Solutions
  • Designed exercises and teaching for day-long training session during their invitation-only annual retreat 
  • Led workshop on mindfulness and compassion in the context of leadership 
  • Created customized exercises - meditation, physical activities, and reflective writing - to explore how compassionate leadership relates to their specific contexts
  • Held coaching sessions about content and application in personal and professional contexts

Starting Smart

Need:  Develop, market and  implement new programming for a research and service center while creating accompanying business and financial models.

  • Led design sessions with co-founders to establish mission, vision and goals
  • Managed new product development projects, timeline and components
  • Designed and helped launch new educational/certification program
  • Developed evaluation and metrics for measuring consumer experience and quality of offerings

Compassionate Closure

Need:  Co-facilitate group session with governing board facing difficult decision about the future  - and potential closure - of their organization.

  • Crafted expectations for group processing based upon Compassion Practice methodology
  • Successfully co-facilitated open-ended discussion to a successful group decision which was executed in the following months 

Lay-Offs and Low Morale

Need:  Reconfigure jobs within a property management team after substantial lay-offs and commensurate reduction in services while simultaneously addressing low morale .

Custom Solutions
  • Coached newly promoted director through organizational change and stepping into new leadership role
  • Utilized Compassion Practice methodology to conduct individual sessions with each person to assess the impact of lay-offs and reorganization
  • Designed off-site retreat with team to set the stage for impending reorganization (including team-building exercises, workflow systems analysis, job reconfigurations, identifying trouble spots and solutions, etc.) 
  • Subsequent recommendations regarding structure, position/title changes, salary adjustments and training needs were implemented without edit

Decision Time

Need:  Design and facilitate process for non-profit leadership team to determine the future of a cherished property that, if sold, could provide significant resources for their mission.

  • Guided leadership team in identifying and framing key issues for consideration
  • Assisted leadership team in determining appropriate scope of decision related to finances, sequence and credibility 
  • Consistently made tangible connections between mission/vision and the decision at hand, allowing them to better see the link between this decision and larger organizational values
  • Facilitated public meeting, effectively communicated key facts on behalf of leadership team, and helped secure a  positive response to proposal
